UI/UX

The Fallen Dominion Game Concept

Overview

In this project, I set out to design a complete user interface system for a dark fantasy RPG, drawing inspiration from Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and Diablo. My goal was to create UI that feels immersive, atmospheric, and thematically consistent, while maintaining clarity and usability for complex gameplay systems. This case study demonstrates how I approach system design, visual identity, and player experience when crafting UI for games.

Project Goals & Process

  • Capture the tone of dark fantasy immersion without sacrificing readability.

  • Create a modular, scalable UI system covering inventory, character stats, quests, codex, skills, and combat overlays.

1. Research & Inspiration
I studied Soulslike UI patterns, noting the balance between minimalism and heavy atmosphere. I also analyzed Diablo IV and Path of Exile for how they handle skill readability and iconography.

2. Style Development
I established a visual language with dark stone textures, glowing metallic frames, and painted iconography, keeping everything grounded in the lore of the imagined world.

3. Iteration
Wireframes and sketches helped test layouts for usability, followed by final rendering in Photoshop and 3D environment mockups for immersion.
